Leeds 'genuinely interested' in bringing 'phenomenal' £34m star to Elland Road

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch before Wolves match

Leeds United have a “genuine interest” in Club Brugge forward Charles De Ketelaere, says Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

There has been talk about Premier League rivals Leicester City being confident about luring the 21-year-old to the King Power Stadium, but Leeds still look to be in the equation after they agreed a deal for Tyler Adams on Monday.

What is the latest news involving De Ketelaere?

According to 90min, Leicester have been tracking De Ketelaere for months and think they can convince him to join the club.

The same outlet claims that AC Milan and Leeds are also interested in signing the Belgian, who is valued at €40m (around £34m) by his current side.

It is a figure that both Leicester and Leeds are reportedly prepared to pay, though 90min states that they are likely to put in opening bids closer to €30m (£25.8m) first.

De Ketelaere was in brilliant form for Club Brugge last season, coming up with 28 goal contributions in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

What has Thornton said about De Ketelaere and Leeds?

Thornton has told GIVEMESPORT that Leeds do indeed have an interest in De Ketelaere, though he is unsure if they can make significant progress on a deal this summer.

Speaking to GMS, the Sky Sports reporter said: “He’s one that I think Leeds like a lot. I think there is genuine interest in him, so he’s one they’re looking at. Whether they can progress that deal remains to be seen.”

Would De Ketelaere be a good signing for Leeds?

If his performances for Club Brugge last season are anything to go by, then De Ketelaere could be a brilliant addition to Jesse Marsch’s squad.

The Belgium international is a forward capable of scoring and creating goals, while journalist Sven Claes thinks he is “phenomenal” on the ball in general.

In his young career so far, De Ketelaere has played as a striker, winger and attacking midfielder, showing his versatility.

Do you know this obscure player Leeds signed in the January transfer window?

Speaking about his compatriot in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan), Antwerp midfielder Radja Nainggolan said: “He is a very strong player, and he needs exactly this: to test himself in a more competitive context than the current one.

“De Ketelaere has won the last three league titles here. In the last two seasons, he has been an undisputed star of the team. What else can it aspire to? His journey in Belgium is over; he must establish himself elsewhere.”

It will now be interesting to see if elsewhere ends up being Elland Road.
