Lewis Hamilton is possibly racing his most challenging campaign for some time.

He did, however, enjoy a fantastic race at the 2022 British Grand Prix and dazzled in instances, notably leaving the crowd roaring after an exemplary overtaking manoeuvre late on.

45 laps into the thrilling affair, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez were furiously battling for second place, with Carlos Sainz leading with a reassuring four second advantage.

As the pair weaved beside each other, striving to gain the advantage, Mercedes’ Hamilton utilised the battle to his gain, slipping in front and unleashing a cacophony of cheer from the scores of supporters at the British Grand Prix.

Perez and Leclerc both momentarily fell off of the racing line, presenting a golden opportunity for the seven-time world drivers' champion to capitalise.

The sheer volume of noise created from the stands is a testament to the high esteem the British fans hold Hamilton in, with his endeavours in Formula 1 leaving him as one of the country’s most decorated and esteemed sportsmen.

Ultimately, Hamilton could not hold the position for more than a few moments, but his slick racing earned him a podium position for the second race weekend running, and his third of the championship.

Mercedes have been uncharacteristically off the mark after an incredible record eight consecutive Constructors' Championships but have recently displayed signs of improvement.

Following changes to the cars and engine regulations, Mercedes have lost their dominating advantage that has been held for so many years, but after tweaks in recent weeks, the team feel they are slowly creeping back to the forefront.

Prior to Sunday’s race, Hamilton said Mercedes have “definitely made an improvement”, with major upgrades bolstering the team’s chances of staging unlikely title challenges for both the team and driver exploits.

With Hamilton remarkably 88 points behind 2021 rival Max Verstappen – who controversially beat Hamilton to the championship on the final race last season – a dramatic comeback must be mounted to reignite a slender chance for gold.
