WWE are considering a singles push for a tag team star, with Montez Ford being earmarked for a big solo run, according to reports.

On Saturday night’s Money in the Bank event Ford, along with Street Profits tag team partner Angelo Dawkins, were unsuccessful in their quest to overcome The Usos and win the Undisputed Tag Team Championships. This despite replay’s showing Montez’s shoulder was clearly not on the mat when the winning pinfallw as made.

Throughout the bout the commentary put over Montez Ford’s ‘new physique’ on multiple occasions and it’s the latest tease that has led to speculation that WWE are about to spilt the team up.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the are many people in WWE pushing for Ford to a big singles star.

I know there are people who want to push (Montez Ford) as a singles (star) so it’s possible. It will be really tough for (Angelo Dawkins) if they break up the team, I can see him really falling off.I can see (WWE) really wanting to do something with Ford as a single, he’s got a lot of charisma, super athlete, so there are people who are very high on him right now, especially with his new physique.

WWE had reportedly previously considered splitting The Street Profits up during the 2021 Draft, but reconsidered to give the team an extended run.

Together, Ford and Dawkins have held tag team gold across NXT, Raw and SmackDown, but it’s Montez who many have considered could be the breakout star of the pair.

In fact, in a recent interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling Dawkins revealed that going back to NXT could be a possibility for him in the future. Stating that he’d like to work with teams like The Creed Brothers, but also name-dropped Trick Williams, Carmelo Hayes and the guys in Chase U as some of the talent he’d like to work with.
