Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas are among those who have received hefty fines for their behaviour at this year’s Wimbledon. At every tournament, players are often disciplined for their behaviour and both Tsitsipas and Kyrgios have a rich history of being sanctioned.

Kyrgios and Tsitsipas both fined over conduct

The two players faced one another in the third round of Wimbledon on Saturday in a match that proved to be a hostile encounter.

Tsitsipas received two warnings for hitting a ball into the crowd, while Kyrgios was cautioned for an audible obscenity.

The Australian insisted that his opponent be defaulted for allegedly hitting a spectator with the ball, though TV replays appeared to suggest otherwise.

Tsitsipas was not defaulted but has been fined $10,000 (£8,250) for the incident, while Kyrgios must now pay $4,000 (£3,300) for his inappropriate language.

Tsitsipas and Kyrgios exchange insults

After the match, the on-court drama between the players spilled into the media room as Tsitsipas accused Kyrgios of being a “bully.”

"It felt kind of a circus, in a way. We're there to play tennis," said the 23-year–old.

"He bullies the opponents," said Tsitsipas. "He was probably a bully at school himself. I don't like bullies. I don't like people that put other people down.

"He has some good traits in his character, as well. But he also has a very evil side to him, which if it's exposed, it can really do a lot of harm and bad to the people around him."

In response, Kyrgios accused Tsitsipas of being bitter about losing and said he was unsure how he’d bullied his opponent.

"He was the one hitting balls at me, he was the one that hit a spectator, he was the one that smacked it out of the stadium," responded the world number 40.

"I didn't do anything.

"Apart from me just going back and forth to the umpire for a bit, I did nothing towards Stefanos that was disrespectful, I don't think. I was not drilling him with balls."

Who else has been fined?

Kyrgios received another fine after his first-round match against Britain’s Paul Jubb for spitting at a spectator.

Meanwhile, US star Reilly Opelka was hit with a $5,000 fine after his second-round defeat against Tim van Rijthoven.

Ostapenko

Fernando Verdasco, Adrian Mannarino and Denis Shapavalov also received $3,000 sanctions.

No female players sanctioned so far

In total, 16 male players have been fined so far, while no female players have been cautioned.

Some players, such as Jelena Ostapenko, have managed to avoid fines thus far, despite their questionable conduct.

Ostapenko was booed off court after her defeat to Tatjana Maria, having thrown a bottle in frustration.
