Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans currently has "no intention" of signing a new contract at the King Power Stadium, says transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Arsenal's interest in the 25-year-old, who will be a free agent next summer, seems to have cooled. But Romano still cannot see him putting pen to paper on an extension for the time being.

What is the latest news involving Tielemans?

Tielemans was thought to have been a target for Arsenal, but the north London club have now taken a step back if reports are to be believed.

According to Sky Sports, despite being admirers of the player, they have cooled their interest.

The Gunners recently signed Fabio Vieira from Porto, with the 22-year-old arriving at the Emirates to give Mikel Arteta's side a boost in midfield.

As a result, it now looks like Arsenal have no need for Tielemans, which will come as a huge disappointment to the Belgian, who is said to be keen on moving to north London.

What has Romano said about Tielemans' contract situation?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Tielemans has no plans to sign a new deal this summer, though he has not ruled out that stance changing after the window closes.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer expert said: "Tielemans is out of contract next summer with no intention to sign a new deal during this summer - maybe that could happen in September, October - but as of now, he's not signing a new deal.

"I think it's a very interesting opportunity for many clubs around Europe, not just English clubs."

How much of a boost would Tielemans staying be for Leicester?

It would be massive. The £49.5m-rated Belgium international is one of the Foxes' best players and proved as much last season.

In the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, he recorded the sixth-highest WhoScored rating in Brendan Rodgers' squad (6.90).

Over the last year, Tielemans has also ranked in the 89th percentile for expected assists among his positional peers (via FBref), so he is a central midfielder who can create chances for his team-mates. Keeping hold of that can only be described as a positive development from a manager's point of view.

Retaining Tielemans for another year also gives Leicester time to look for and sign an adequate replacement.

All in all, from a Leicester perspective, it would be great if he stayed for another season, which now looks like a strong possibility after the cooling of Arsenal's interest.
