Man Utd: £300k-a-week Premier League star 'thinking' about Old Trafford move

Man United boss Erik ten Hag looking very focused

Manchester United target Christian Eriksen is ‘still thinking about’ the contract offer put to him from the club, journalist Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport on Sunday.

The Red Devils are believed to be one of several Premier League sides eager to snap up the 30-year-old, who is available on a free transfer following the expiration of his short-term deal with Brentford.

What is the latest news involving Eriksen?

Sides such as Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Leicester City and Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in Eriksen following his return to fitness and form.

However, Sky Sports reported that the Denmark international is set to decide between Manchester United and Brentford as he contemplates his next move.

It’s claimed that the Old Trafford outfit have made a more financially lucrative offer, yet Eriksen is also finding the Bees’ proposal appealing and has reservations about relocating his family.

In fact, Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has informed GiveMeSport that United have offered the playmaker ‘just under £300,000-a-week’ to join Erik ten Hag’s revolution.

What has Romano said about Eriksen?

Ten Hag appears to be predominantly targeting players who are either currently playing for Ajax or have a previous connection with the club in order to help implement his playing style in the red half of Manchester as seamlessly as possible.

And Romano has disclosed to GiveMeSport that United remain hopeful that Eriksen, who previously made 163 appearances for the Amsterdam giants, will sign on the dotted line.

He told GMS: “At the moment, he is still thinking about it, so no answer to Manchester United. It means that they are still there and still hoping for Christian Eriksen to join them. So, let’s see what Eriksen will decide.”

Where would Eriksen fit in at United?

With Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata departing United as free agents, bringing in a new attacking midfielder may be on Ten Hag’s to-do list.

Paul Pogba has also agreed to re-join Juventus, while Nemanja Matic has signed for AS Roma, further intensifying the need for United to strengthen their options in the middle of the park.

Eriksen may be seen as an unnecessary addition by some due to his age and high wage demands, although he would undoubtedly bring an element of class and control to the club.

He has racked up 272 goal contributions in 539 senior club appearances throughout his career and could prove to be an astute acquisition by Ten Hag.
