Venus Williams has announced she has returned to tennis training and already has a number of tournaments in the pipeline.

The 10-time Grand Slam champion has not played a singles match since August 2021 but she is now preparing to return to the WTA Tour.

She has also dropped a potential hint that she could be lining up some doubles appearances with sister Serena as well.

Williams' last singles match took place at the Chicago Open last year, where she fell at the first hurdle to Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei.

In almost 12 months, the 42-year-old has appeared at just one other tournament. She partnered Jamie Murray in this year's Wimbledon mixed doubles but failed to make it past the second round.

Now, after a lengthy break from the singles competition, she is planning her comeback.

"I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve started training again,” Williams said in her latest YouTube video.

"Hopefully, you can catch one of my matches at some of my upcoming tournaments. I’m going to put in a lot of effort for you guys in the next few months. Stay tuned.

"It’s been a really long time since I’ve been on the court and this is practice number seven. I don’t think it’s that bad for practice seven, although I’m never happy if it’s not perfect."

The comeback of a legendary duo?

Williams then teased the idea of getting the band back together with her sister, Serena.

The two last competed together at the 2018 French Open and were knocked out in the round of 16.

Venus has since linked up with Briton Harriet Dart and fellow American Coco Gauff, but no partnership will ever compare to her history with Serena.

During their career as a duo, the Williams sisters won an astonishing 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals. They are regarded as one of the greatest tennis duos in the sport's history.

Venus and Serena remain the only pair in history to win the career Golden Slam in doubles — claiming all four Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold.

"Serena and I were on the court at the same time too, which has also not happened in a long time," Williams said.

"But more than anything, it’s just very satisfying to get it all out there and hit the ball and sweat a little bit.

"We’ll see where this takes me, hopefully to a championship. I don’t know but I’m here."
