Aston Villa can make a "pretty good signing" if they manage to land Conor Gallagher in the near future, says journalist Josh Holland.

The Chelsea midfielder is expected to remain at Stamford Bridge this summer, but if the Villans can get him out of the west London club next year, Holland thinks he would be quite the acquisition.

What is the latest news involving Gallagher?

Towards the end of last month, The Telegraph reported that Everton are interested in signing Gallagher.

Prior, however, football.london claimed that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel had assured the 22-year-old that he would be an important player for the Blues in the upcoming season, so it does not look like he is on the market right now.

Should that change, though, potential suitors could be looking at £30m to secure his services, according to BirminghamLive.

Gallagher spent last term out on loan at Crystal Palace and made a huge impact, scoring eight goals in 34 league appearances from midfield.

What has Holland said about Gallagher and Villa?

Holland believes Gallagher would be a solid addition to Steven Gerrard's squad if they decide to make a move for the England international and successfully land him.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I don't think a lot of people would have thought [Philippe] Coutinho would be coming in on a permanent deal when he signed on loan in January, so a lot of things could change by this time next year. Gallagher on loan would be a pretty good signing."

Will Villa sign Gallagher this summer?

Gerrard would probably love to, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealing that the Chelsea man is a footballer the Liverpool legend adores.

"Great player, I'm told Steven Gerrard loves him, he really loves him and rates him highly," Romano said on the Qué Golazo podcast (via BirminghamLive).

However, it seems like Gallagher is going to get a genuine chance at Chelsea this upcoming season, making a summer move unlikely.

With N'Golo Kante not as dependable as he used to be due to injuries, Tuchel may very well have plans for Gallagher.

Should that not end up being the case, though, then perhaps a loan move is something Villa could explore in the January transfer window. He would bring a lot to the side, with the Chelsea academy product proving that he knows where the back of the net is last term, and is clearly someone Gerrard would love to have at Villa Park.
