Leeds have 'accepted proposal' over £60m star at Elland Road

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch clapping

Leeds United winger Raphinha is likely to choose Barcelona over Chelsea, if the La Liga club can offer the right transfer fee, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Both Chelsea and Barcelona have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old persistently over the last few weeks.

What’s the latest on Raphinha?

Raphinha has been linked with a move away from Elland Road since March, and it looks more of a case of when, not if the Brazilian leaves the Premier League club.

Romano has also revealed that Leeds are close to signing Feyenoord and Colombia winger Luís Sinisterra, who seems to be a direct replacement for the nine-time Brazilian international.

The Athletic had initially reported that Chelsea were close to agreeing a fee north of £55m (now thought be £60m according to Romano) for Raphinha, jumping ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign the winger, whilst Barcelona also retained an interest.

And Romano believes that should Barcelona be able to stump up the money for the £63k-per-week Leeds star, he will move to the Camp Nou over Stamford Bridge.

What has Romano said about Raphinha?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If Barcelona will be able to do it, Raphinha will go there because his priority is to go to Barca.

“If not, the intention for Leeds is to respect the agreement with Chelsea.

“It’s a £60m proposal.

“They accepted this proposal last Tuesday, and they’re waiting for the player to make a decision.”

How can Leeds replace Raphinha?

With rumours developing around Raphinha’s future, it is hard to foresee a situation where Leeds can keep hold of their star wide man ahead of the Premier League kick off in August.

And he will be a tough player to replace having scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 36 across all competitions last season, according to Transfermarkt.

However, it does seem that Leeds are being proactive in their response to Raphinha’s potential departure, with negotiations for Sinisterra progressing nicely for the Elland Road club.

The five-time Colombia international enjoyed a productive campaign for the Eredivisie side last season, scoring 23 goals and providing 14 assists in 49 appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

And a SofaScore rating of 7.51 for his performances in the Netherlands last season suggest that when called upon, the 23-year-old has been in scintillating form for his club.

Raphinha will be an incredibly tough player to replace for Leeds, but Sinisterra’s record in the Eredivisie is superb, and is definitely worth a gamble for the Elland Road club, should their Brazilian star leave in the coming weeks.
