UFC star Charles Oliveira has provided fans with an update on a possible superfight against Conor McGregor.

The era of superfights is still upon us and while they may not be quite as prevalent as they were just a few years ago, there are still a lot of potential match-ups out there that we could see the UFC booking.

Many of them, unsurprisingly, involve Conor McGregor.

The Irishman isn’t exactly the sweetheart of mixed martial arts in the way he once was, but he’s still widely considered to be the biggest name in the sport by quite some distance.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie especially as he prepares to return following a year-long absence due to a broken leg he suffered at the hands of Dustin Poirier last summer. Alas, despite the enthusiasm, we appear to be no closer to any kind of confirmation regarding when exactly he’ll be back and who he’ll be battling.

One man who appears to be a leading candidate is none other than Charles Oliveira, the former UFC lightweight champion.

‘Do Bronx’ has been pretty vocal about his desire to cash in on a fight against ‘Notorious’ but unfortunately for him, the Irishman appears to be more interested in a collision at welterweight as opposed to lightweight.

It’s understandable to think that’d throw Oliveira off but in a recent interview, he revealed that he’d be more than happy to head up to 170.

“Of course, with Conor I would fight at 170 [pounds]. It’s all about money, and I would like to make this money fighting him.”

What’s next for the Brazilian?

Charles Oliveira no longer holds the gold at lightweight, although the majority of fans and pundits still see him as the best fighter in the world at that weight class. He clearly wants to get the belt back around his waist but when you hear him speak about McGregor, it becomes clear that he’s quite invested in the prospect of a mega pay-per-view payday.

If McGregor decides to go in a different direction then an Abu Dhabi date with Islam Makhachev for the vacant strap is definitely on the cards, even though Charles would rather see Islam get past Beneil Dariush first.
