There is no more debate.

After winning literally every single fight in his trilogy with Max Holloway, Alexander Volkanovski is officially the best featherweight in the world.

But then again, some of us already knew that anyway….

Two nights ago at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the Australian MMA fighter successfully defended the UFC featherweight title once again with a unanimous decision victory over the Hawaiian in the co-main event of UFC 276.

The fight was a one-sided affair, with Volkanovski winning virtually every minute of every single round.

In truth, it was nothing short of a masterclass.

Last time, there were some questions about the judges’ scoring. This time, however, there could be no doubt. He deserved a clear unanimous decision and the title.

Thankfully, however, he got both this time.

Afterwards, Volkanovski spoke of his intention to move up and challenge for the vacant lightweight title.

If he does that and is successful, then he might, just might, be the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, period.

But of course, there’s still a long way to go before that.

Here, GiveMeSport.com goes through the five best options for Volkanovski after beating Holloway.

Charles Oliveira

Like we said, Volkanovski has stated his intent to fight for the 155lb belt most recently held by Charles Oliveira.

However, with Oliveira currently in talks to fight Islam Makhachev in Saudi Arabia, Volkanovski is also keen to build on his momentum rather than sit and wait for the opportunity leaving the door open to plenty of other exciting fights.

But a broken left hand will likely keep him out of action for a while so the title picture may have sorted itself out by the time he is fit and healthy again.

Islam Makhachev

As above, but if the result goes the other way instead.

Fighting out of American Kickboxing Academy, Makhachev is best known as one of the main training partners of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Stylistically at least, like Oliveira, he’s probably the worst possible matchup for Volkanovski on paper, but who wouldn’t want to see it?

Josh Emmett

What does Josh Emmett have to do to get a title shot? The man’s on a five-fight winning streak, for flips sake!

Fresh from a victory over fellow action hero Calvin Kattar, Emmett rocked up to the event hoping to manoeuvre his way into the title picture.

Sadly he didn’t get the chance to do so thanks to some rather unhelpful security guards but here’s hoping the matchmakers will look on him a bit more favourably.

Where was Conor McGregor born?

Conor McGregor

Volkanovski has called out Conor McGregor before and insists that he would be happy to fight him at welterweight.

However the chances of this happening are remote to say the least but it remains a possibility nonetheless.

Interestingly enough, he recently revealed that he is the highest paid featherweight in the promotion’s history apart from McGregor himself.

Yair Rodriguez

With a date with Brian Ortega fast approaching, Yair Rodriguez has got more than enough on his plate right now.

In his last fight, Rodriguez was defeated by Holloway as he made an unsuccessful return to the Octagon after a long layoff. ‘Pantera’ is 14-3 in his professional career so far and has faced the likes of Frankie Edgar, Jeremy Stephens and Chan Sung Jung.

But if he beats Ortega in style, the title shot could be his, such is the nature of the beast.
