What’s the latest on de Ligt?

Despite the fact that he would be keen to join Chelsea, according to Sky Sport Germany, Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign the 38-cap Netherlands international.

Thomas Tuchel’s side had reportedly made a £34.4m bid to Juve in an attempt to sign De Ligt which had been rejected, whilst a deal involving Christian Pulisic had also been included in negotiations for the centre-back.

But Sky Sport Germany believe that Bayern have now overtaken Chelsea in negotiations for the 22-year-old, who has been contacted personally by the Bundesliga side’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and head coach Julian Nagelsmann in an attempt to bring him to the Allianz Arena next season.

But Romano still believes that Chelsea are in the race for the £63m-rated talent, and the player is keen on a move to the Premier League side.

What has Romano said about de Ligt?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He wants to go and Chelsea know that the player is keen on the move, and this is why they're preparing a new proposal.”

Will De Ligt sign for Chelsea?

While De Ligt, who has been described as “phenomenal” by former manager Maurizio Sarri, is obviously open to leaving his current club in Juventus, he must ponder over a tough decision as to whether to sign for Chelsea or Bayern Munich, who are two world-class clubs with high amounts of talent.

In Bayern he is signing for comfortably the biggest side in Germany, and with the departure of Niklas Süle, his chances of being a regular starter for the Bundesliga giants are high.

Meanwhile, Chelsea also have the pull of being a huge club, but also the factor of playing in the Premier League, which is arguably the strongest league on the planet as of now, and with the departures of Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, the club are in need of new bodies at centre-back.

The 6 foot 2 colossus uses his height and defensive ability to good effect, and ranks in the top 17% of defenders across Europe’s top five leagues and European competition for aerial duels won per 90 minutes (3.57), according to FBref.

The same stats provider also suggests that he is competent with his passing ability, which would suit a back three system deployed by Tuchel down to a tee, with the centre-back ranking in the top 20% amongst his peers for pass completion rate per 90 minutes (89.5%).

There is no doubt that de Ligt would be an ideal signing for Chelsea, with his young age and top-class ability suggesting that he could be a long-term replacement for Rüdiger, should he arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer.
