Tottenham are admirers of Josko Gvardiol, but RB Leipzig want "crazy" money for the defender, claims Fabrizio Romano.

The Croatian is believed to be a player of interest to the north London club, but Romano says it will be difficult for them to bring him to Hotspur Way this summer.

What is the latest news involving Gvardiol?

Transfermarkt reported last month that both Tottenham and their London rivals Chelsea want Gvardiol, who is valued at £103m by the CIES Football Observatory.

However, according to the website, Leipzig have made it clear that they will not be selling the 20-year-old in this transfer window.

While Spurs signing Gvardiol now looks unlikely, their central defence is still set for a boost ahead of the 2022/23 season.

As per multiple reports, including from The Athletic, Barcelona's Clement Lenglet is close to joining the club on a season-long loan deal.

What has Romano said about Gvardiol and Tottenham?

Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that it would take an incredible amount of money to get Gvardiol out of Leipzig this summer.

Speaking to GMS, the transfer expert said: "Gvardiol's always been super appreciated by Tottenham and also by Chelsea because also Chelsea are big fans of Gvardiol. But at the moment, Leipzig have no intention to negotiate for a normal fee.

"They want a crazy fee to let Gvardiol leave this summer, so it will be difficult."

Would Gvardiol be a good signing for Tottenham?

With Ben Davies forced to play on the left side of Antonio Conte's back three last term, the Italian has been looking at left-footed centre-backs in this transfer window. Considering that, Gvardiol would be a good fit for Spurs.

Over the last year, the 20-year-old has ranked in the 84th percentile for pressures and the 97th for interceptions among central defenders (via FBref), showing his defensive capability. But what is most impressive about Gvardiol is probably his ability on the ball.

He has ranked in the 97th percentile for progressive passes, the 94th for progressive carries and the 99th for dribbles completed. In the Croatia international, you are looking at an extremely talented modern-day centre-half.

Speaking about Gvardiol at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, Transfermarkt's Stefan Bienkowski wrote on Twitter: "I know it’s a bit of an old cliche, but the links to Chelsea really do show how outstanding Joško Gvardiol has been in his first full season at RB Leipzig.

"This time last year there were serious concerns over Leipzig replacing Dayot Upamecano. Not anymore."

It is no surprise, then, that Tottenham want Gvardiol and Leipzig are doing everything they can to keep hold of him.
