Jon Jones has received a warning from one of Stipe Miocic’s close friends regarding his heavyweight frame heading into their rumoured title showdown.

The heavyweight division in the UFC is as stacked as it’s ever been and in the next couple of months, we’re going to see a couple of titanic clashes that’ll give us a clearer indication of who the primary contenders are for when Francis Ngannou returns.

Tai Tuivasa vs Ciryl Gane and Tom Aspinall vs Curtis Blaydes are both scheduled to take place in Paris and London respectively, but beyond that, the biggest level of intrigue lies in the proposed meeting between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

These two behemoths have been heavily linked with a fight against one another for quite some time now. However, up to this point, the UFC has yet to make any kind of official announcement regarding when they’ll square off.

The popular opinion is that UFC 279 or UFC 280 could play host to the fight, especially given the fact that neither of those pay-per-views currently has a main event.

Jones has been pretty outspoken on social media but the same can’t be said for Miocic who tends to keep himself to himself when he’s not in the public eye.

In a recent interview with The Schmo, though, Miocic’s friend Chris Weidman made an interesting revelation regarding his current size.

“I was hanging out with him [Stipe] last night, bro, he got big. He’s been doing it quietly. He’s like a solid 250 right now, solid 250 and whenever he decides to come back, he is a problem. I don’t think Jon Jones wants that fight. If he thinks he’s going to be going against a 225-pound Stipe, he’s wrong. You’ve got a big strong boy that won’t stop coming forward and believes in himself.

“He’s a different beast right now, I’m telling you.”

The comeback

We haven’t seen Stipe Miocic compete in the Octagon for over a year since his UFC 260 defeat at the hands of Francis Ngannou.

The Ohio native was knocked out cold by ‘The Predator’ and if he can get past Jon Jones, he’ll be chomping at the bit to try and avenge that defeat in a trilogy bout next year.
