Lewis Hamilton showed us why he was still at the top of his game at the British Grand Prix, securing another podium as Mercedes look to revive their season.

The start of the race was one of the main talking points, with Zhou Guanyu’s horror crash going into Abbey Corner.

However, prior to that, Hamilton got off to a great start, jumping from fifth place to third, overtaking Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc.

Despite being one of the more senior drivers on the grid, Hamilton showed why he is still one of the best in the business, showing his ridiculous reaction time.

You’d expect reaction times to slow with age, but Hamilton is clearly still at the peak of his powers, setting up an exciting remainder to the season with Mercedes improving each race now.

They’re getting much closer to the Ferraris and Red Bulls and can actually compete now, but they still have work to do.

We saw the best angle of Hamilton’s start from the onboard footage of Perez (from 1:37), who was much slower to react, with the seven-time world champion cutting through the gap clinically.

The Silver Arrow looked so much quicker than the cars around him, it looked too easy for Hamilton, although the start didn’t mean much.

Quickly after the move from Hamilton, the race was swiftly red-flagged as attentions turned to Zhou who was suspended in his car, trapped upside down.

He was turned upside down by George Russell who was clipped by Pierre Gasly and subsequently lost control of his car, spinning into the Chinese driver.

Thankfully, the Chinese rookie was ok and the race resumed after they removed the danger and repaired the barriers.

When the race got back underway, the original order was restored, meaning Hamilton’s start was all in vain.

Second time round, he was embroiled in much more of a scrap, however he still managed to finish third and was within chance of a race win for a large part of the race.

It shows us the fine margins in the sport, with the difference in reaction times being just a split second, but making a huge difference to the race situation.

The Brit delivered an honest assessment of the race, saying: “I gave it everything today! I was chasing, trying to get those Ferraris, but congratulations to Carlos. They were just too quick today for us and at the end I was in amongst that battle with Checo. Those guys were just too quick on the straights for me today, but I’m so, so grateful for all the hard work the team did to get an upgrade here, we’ve made a step closer to them, so we’ve got to keep pushing!”
