When you think of Lamar Jackson and his time so far with the Baltimore Ravens, there’s one play that should immediately come to mind.
We all know that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is electric when it comes to his footwork, coming into the NFL he made it pretty clear that he was an incredible dual-threat quarterback during his days at the University of Louisville.
During his college days he was more or less a one-man offensive machine for the Cardinals, as not only did he put up 9,043 passing yards and 69 touchdowns through the air, but he also racked up 4,132 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns along the ground, including 21 rushing touchdowns in 2016 that saw him become the youngest recipient of the Heisman at just 19 years of age.
However those feet caused him quite a few problems when he was coming into the NFL, with some suggesting that he should transition to wide receiver, as some doubted his quarterback abilities when it came to being in the pocket.
Those doubts ultimately meant that he slipped way down the pecking order during the draft, until the Ravens took him with the 32nd overall pick, right at the end of the 1st round back in 2018.
More than worth the wait
The Ravens already had a franchise quarterback on the roster when Jackson came onto the scene, that being Joe Flacco who had been their starter since the 2008 season and who helped win them a Super Bowl back in the 2012 season.
As a result, Jackson was forced to ride the bench for a little bit, but when he became their starter, he took his chance and didn’t look back, as so far he has managed to put up 9,967 passing yards and 84 touchdowns through the air whilst also earning 3,673 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns in the regular season, earning the 2019 NFL MVP along the way.
Those large numbers are often helped by some of the big plays he’s been able to make as a result of how quick he is, but arguably none have been as impressive as what he pulled off in 2019 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
His signature play
The highlight of his 2019 MVP season came in week 10 when on an option play, he kept the ball and went on a run that left the announcers, plenty of fans in the stands and watching at home on TV mesmorised as he danced his way through the Bengals defence and into the end zone:

If there was one play that could encapsulate what he can bring to the table, and why you can never take your eyes off him, both as a player and as a fan, then let it be this one.
Jackson is currently in a contract dispute with the Ravens this offseason and they’ll be hoping they can come to an agreement so that they can see more of these dazzling moments in the future.
