Appearing on DÅ ÄR VI IGÅNG podcast, the Swede explained how, against Norwich, he tried to pass to Son instead of shooting when he was presented with an open goal.
Spurs had to beat Norwich on the final day to secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.
But there was another prize up for grabs as Son went into the match one goal behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.
Spurs led 2-0 at half time with goals from Kulusevski and Harry Kane.
Champions League qualification appeared to be secure so attentions turned to helping Son outscore Salah.
However, it seems Kulusevski went a bit too far in trying to help the South Korean as he has now explained brilliantly.
VIDEO: Kulusevski explains how he tried to help Son win Golden Boot
“Two minutes before the goal, there was a weird situation,” he began.
“I was free with the goalkeeper. A lot of things went down.
“A guy tackled me. I’m alone with the goalkeeper. I was thinking ‘Should I lay down? He’s going to get sent off.’
“But I was like ‘No, I have to score of course.’
“So their keeper comes out and then hesitates. So I realise that I’m going to get there first. So I run past him. I have an empty goal in front of me. I was like ‘Man, this is awkward’ I don’t really like to have an open goal.
“And the fans are right next to me, you know. They are shouting ‘Gimme, gimme’ right next to me. I’m like ‘Take a deep breath. Take your time, Dejan. You have an open goal’.
“I’m staring at it, you know it’s definitely empty! But I take one more touch. Then I think ‘Now maybe it is time to finally shoot’.
“But then I see Son. I see my teammate Son. He is like ‘Pass me the ball!’ He needs one more goal to win the Golden Boot. And we all have said before the game that we need to pass to Son. You know Son has to win the Golden Boot.
“So I’m like ‘Dejan, forget about the goal you have to assist Son’. I pass the ball and when I pass the ball I get stuck in the ground. So it becomes a wrong touch and the ball just rolls slowly towards the goal and they clear the ball at the goalline. And I just stand there after and think ‘Bro…Dejan… What the f**k are you doing?’
“I’m thinking ‘You are the biggest idiot’. And I felt so ashamed.
“And I got so frustrated and was like give me the ball again. Then two minutes later I get the ball again and then I don’t think at all I just put the ball in the top corner.”

VIDEO: Dejan Kulusevski tries to pass to Son instead of scoring
Kulusevski did score just minutes later and, luckily for him, Son went on to score two goals to round off a 5-0 win. Salah only managed one strike as Liverpool beat Wolves meaning the two players shared the Golden Boot.
And recently, Son revealed that Antonio Conte actually told the player to pass to Son at half time with Spurs already 2-0 up – clearly something that was on Kulusevski’s mind.
“I was happy to be awarded, but I was much happier because the team-mates were also delighted. The boss didn’t consider it, he just focused on the Champions League,” Son has told a press conference in Korea.
“But he spoke at half-time to the team to help Sonny to score and to get Golden Boot. To be honest, I was a little anxious because I didn’t have chances to score, but I cheered up after he said that.
“When Lucas Moura and Steve Bergwijn substituted in, they said they will help me score. It was not easy as we are team-mates as well as competitors. I was really happy for them.”
