Max Verstappen has revealed his thoughts on the battle he had with Mick Schumacher towards the end of the race at Silverstone on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutchman had a bit of a tough race at the British Grand Prix, with his chances of winning scuppered by the fact he'd run over debris, ironically from an AlphaTauri, which had punched itself into the floor of his Red Bull and got lodged.

Indeed, he was suffering a natural performance loss due to that and wound up finishing 7th, though it could well have been eighth had Mick Schumacher forced his way through in the Haas.

The German was on course for his first-ever championship points regardless, but clearly wanted even more as he hounded and hassled Max in the closing stages, though the Dutchman eventually held firm and kept hold of 7th as they almost crossed the finish line together.

Speaking to the press at Silverstone reflecting on the battle, Max had this to say:

“My car was limping a bit.

“I knew also Mick was really trying to go for seventh, and it was fun.

“Of course, I was not enjoying where I was, but you can also appreciate the fight you are having with someone else. I think it was actually quite a good battle.

“I said to him ‘I knew you were fighting for the points’. He said ‘yeah, I know, but I really wanted seventh’. I said ‘I know you did, I saw that!’

“It was a good battle. I was like ‘well, he had to know to back off, otherwise we are both out’. Luckily, he is smart enough to.”

It was a great fight between the two drivers and there was just about the right level of respect but hard racing between them.

Thankfully, neither got punted off and it was especially pleasing to see Mick earn his first-ever championship points in his F1 career, after such a battle.

It was just another passage of racing that added to an already exciting Grand Prix, and we can't wait for even more in Austria this weekend.
