Burnley FC have used one of The Rock's iconic WWE segments to announce their fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

Burnley confirmed this afternoon that 25-year-old Samuel Bastien has joined the club from Belgian outfit Standard Liege.

The Belgian midfielder has joined Burnley for €800,000 (£688,464), as new manager Vincent Kompany looks to send his side back to the Premier League after their relegation last season.

Bastien is Burnley's fifth signing of the summer, with Luke McNally, CJ Egan-Riley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Scott Twine already having joined the club during this summer window.

To announce the signing, Burnley's social media team thought outside of the box, clearly using the wacky world of WWE as inspiration.

In a video uploaded to Twitter today, Burnley used The Rock's iconic WWE promo from March 2003, which saw Bill Goldberg debut for the company later on in the segment.

For some context, the promo took place on the March 31 episode of Monday Night Raw, the night after WrestleMania XIX, WWE's biggest show of the year.

Anyway, back to Burnley's video, the admin used the caption "whose next?" to speak about the club's latest signing, which also just so happened to be the catchphrase of Goldberg.

At the end of the clip, emerging from smoke just like the WWE Hall of Famer used to do, Bastien appears, confirming that he's joined the club.

You can watch the entire announcement video above in the embedded tweet, and to be honest, it's one of the more creative we've seen during this transfer window.

The reaction to the announcement has been almost as brilliant as the announcement itself, with fans seemingly quite enjoying the out-of-the-box video.

Former Bolton defender David Wheater even got in on the reaction, applauding the social media admin for their idea.
