UFC star Michael Chandler has called out lightweight rival Dustin Poirier following their altercation at UFC 276.
Last Saturday nightâs UFC 276 event was a solid success for the promotion with another great gate, plenty of celebrity appearances and a parade of world class mixed martial artists putting on a show.
The majority of those fighters competed inside the Octagon but as it turns out, there were a couple of well-known faces that took their beef to the seats of T-Mobile Arena.
In footage that was released by UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns, Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler had to be separated by security as a result of a scuffle that broke out between them.
Many seem to have corroborated that Poirier was unhappy with Chandler, which may have had something to do with the constant back and forth theyâve had with one another on social media recently.
The two 155-pound stand-outs eventually cooled off but in the following tweet, âIron Mikeâ sent a fairly obvious indirect message to âThe Diamondâ.
âSimple truth in life - you arenât yourself when youâre that thirsty. Keep your cool, be a professional, especially in public. Your insecurities are showing.â
Fans subsequently bombarded Chandler with comments, both in support of him and in defence of Poirier.
Will the fight happen?
When you take a look at the lightweight landscape, this contest actually makes a whole lot of sense.
Chandler is coming off the back of a knockout win over Tony Ferguson whereas Poirier has been waiting for an opponent ever since he was submitted by Charles Oliveira last December.
Theyâve both gone to war with Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez and Oliveira, they both need another big win to be considered for a title shot, and neither of them has many other options - unless Conor McGregor decides to return to the division.
The UFC knows just how lucky they are with regards to the talent they have at their disposal at lightweight. If they want to put on another guaranteed barnburner for the fans, especially if it goes down on a PPV, itâd be hard to find a match-up much better than this one.
