The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford on the back of the club’s worst points tally in Premier League history. As a result, the Red Devils finished sixth and failed to qualify for Champions League football.
And Ten Hag’s job has been made even more unenviable in the last few days after reports emerged that star man Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave.
The former Ajax boss has an incredibly important pre-season ahead of him as he attempts to get this underachieving Man Utd side playing his way.
Various training clips have emerged over the last week or so showing Ten Hag working hard to get his new squad into shape with a series of drills.
Ten Hag wants his sides to play fast, attacking football. Being confident and brave on the ball.
That much was clear as a clip emerged of a training drill on Tuesday showing the squad involved in a one-touch and move exercise.
However, it was clear Ten Hag wasn’t too impressed with what he was seeing.
In the clip, you can constantly hear him shouting “On the right foot…” with players seemingly struggling to grasp the concept of the drill. By the end, Ten Hag has seen enough and shouts “Making too many mistakes…”

Notice how he's been taking them on one-touch, quick-passing football?
Reminds me when he said "good is not good enough. The intention is to play fantastic football and win".pic.twitter.com/yFNrueetrE
A clip of Ajax players under Ten Hag performing the same drill shows the clear difference. The Ajax drill is played with far more intensity with players not having to break stride to play passes with pace and accuracy.

Fans spot the difference between Man Utd & Ajax drills
And fans could clearly see the difference between the two sides performing the same drill:
Course, Ten Hag has only been training these United players for a week or so and there’s plenty of time for them to get it right. But it will take, that’s for sure.
Despite that, Marcus Rashford has revealed there is a ‘buzz’ around the Carrington training squad as this squad learns how to play the Ten Hag way.
“Yeah, definitely, we have got that feeling of excitement and that buzz around the training ground again and so it is definitely positive going into pre-season,” he told the club’s official website. “It is just about, one, getting the principles right of how Erik wants us to play and the details, and, two, enjoying it. In the first week of training we have done both and everyone is looking forward to going on the tour and putting what we have done in training into the first games.
Don’t get me wrong, it has been tough, but we have all enjoyed the training sessions and we are mixing it up as well. We are not just doing all football and all running, we are doing a little bit of both so it’s fun and it’s good signs looking forward. He is very detailed out on the grass and even in the rules of each game. Like I said, it is all fresh and when something is fresh it is good for the mind and good for the body, so we are all looking forward to working with him and hopefully we continue to improve. That is the main thing that we want to do.”
