Manchester United will ‘have to consider’ making a move for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 26-year-old’s current contract expires in 12 months’ time and has so far been unable to agree terms on a new deal while the Red Devils remain locked in negotiations with Ajax for Antony.

What is the latest news involving Gnabry?

A recent report from The Sun has stated that Gnabry has appeared on the shortlist of both United and their local rivals Manchester City as they look to bolster their options in attack.

It’s claimed that the Germany international has already turned down a £200,000-per-week offer from Bayern with the club’s president Herbert Hainer openly expressing his disappointment.

"We've been in talks with Serge for a long time. Unfortunately, we haven't reached an agreement yet,” said Hainer. “There are different expectations, but we're working on it."

Bayern are said to be open to sanctioning Gnabry’s sale if a solution can’t be found, though, and would accept an offer in the region of £35 million.

Both Manchester clubs are believed to be closely monitoring the versatile forward’s situation, although City will only make a move if Raheem Sterling departs the Etihad Stadium.

What has Jones said about Gnabry?

United’s ongoing pursuit of Antony indicates that new manager Erik ten Hag wants to improve his options out wide, and Jones believes Gnabry is an option they’ll need to examine.

He told GiveMeSport: “It’s one they’ll have to consider if it drags on. And the longer he doesn't sign a new contract, and the longer United don't have a solution in attack, the more likely it becomes.

“He's a solution on the market that is doable at a reasonable price, so it's possible.”

Would Gnabry be a good signing?

Gnabry has firmly placed himself among the elite attackers in Europe over the last four years, registering 64 goals and 40 assists in 171 appearances for Bayern, leading to Owen Hargreaves labelling him an "unbelievable finisher."

In that time, the skilful star has claimed four Bundesliga titles, one Champions League crown and two DFB-Pokals, playing a pivotal part in a dominant era for FC Hollywood.

And it remains to be seen whether Gnabry would be prepared to sacrifice playing in Europe’s elite cup competition to sign for the 20-time English champions.

Securing his signature would be a sizeable coup for Ten Hag, though, adding some much-need firepower to what was a disappointing forward line for United last term.
