What’s the latest on Souček?

It has been widely reported throughout the summer that Souček has rejected a contract extension offer from West Ham, putting his future at the London Stadium in doubt, with the 27-year-old having just two years remaining on his deal.

David Moyes and GSB may be forced into selling the 52-time Czech Republic international, this summer in order to get any financial value out of the player, with Aston Villa, Everton, and Newcastle United reportedly interested in a move for the midfielder.

Souček joined the Irons on an initial loan deal from Slavia Prague in January 2020, before the move was made permanent in the summer of that year for a fee of £15m.

But Brown believes that there is a major problem at the club regarding the 6 foot 4 midfielder’s future.

What has Brown said about Souček?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “The question mark is what the future holds for Tomáš Souček.

“I don't think West Ham have had any serious bids for him yet this window, but his contract situation has become a problem.”

Would West Ham miss Souček?

The departure of Souček would be a major blow for both Moyes and West Ham fans alike, and the club would need to invest significantly in a replacement, with £40.5m-rated man being one of only two senior midfielders at the club, alongside Declan Rice.

The Czech Republic superstar has made 105 appearances for the Irons since signing in 2020, scoring 19 goals and providing two assists in that time, according to Transfermarkt.

Souček had been an effective presence in the final third of the pitch for Moyes’ side last season, ranking in the top 17% of midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues and European competition for non-penalty goals per 90 minutes (0.14) according to FBref.

The same stats provider also shows that the current West Ham man uses his 6 foot 4 presence effectively in a defensive sense, ranking in the top 1% and 2% for clearances and aerial duels won per 90 minutes respectively (3.22 and 3.95) suggesting that the Czech international is an all-round midfielder.

Souček would be incredibly difficult for Moyes to replace next season, and he would struggle to find another midfielder that could have the same on-pitch relationship with Rice.

It would be in the best interests of West Ham to find a solution to this contract situation promptly.
