GTA 6: Rockstar shelves remasters to focus on upcoming game

Rockstar have shelved all of their currently planned remakes to focus on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, according to Kotaku.

The website has managed to source information claiming that the developers are now prioritising the next mainline entry into the GTA franchise.

The story began with a tweet from Tez, a reliable GTA insider, who claimed that Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 remasters were not “on the table” for the developers.

That has potentially come about due to the terrible reception the GTA Trilogy remaster received when it released last year.

Kotaku have confirmed that report with their own sources and it appears that GTA 6 is the current focus for the studio.

They confirmed that the long-awaited next GTA game was in development earlier this year.

Kotaku also claims that there could eventually be a release of Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 remasters but that they are currently planned for after GTA 6 has shipped.

It is not exactly clear yet when the game will be landing but there has been continuous speculation over the release date for some time.

Of course, the last entry into the franchise was GTA 5 and that released way back in 2013.

It is likely to have been a decade since the release before GTA 6 comes to the new generation of consoles: the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S.

It is amazing, really, when one considers that GTA 5 came out on the PS3 and the Xbox 360, two console generations ago, and has had rereleases on both the PS4 and Xbox One and the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

We’ll keep you updated when we have any new information on GTA 6, as we’re as excited as you are for the next instalment!
