Newcastle United could make a "lucrative offer" to Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer, believes journalist Pete O'Rourke.

There has been some talk about the Tyneside club potentially making a move for the Belgian, and O'Rourke is not ruling it out given the financial power they now possess.

What is the latest news involving Tielemans?

According to CBS Sports' Ben Jacobs, Newcastle could join the race to sign Tielemans this transfer window.

The 25-year-old is already thought to be a target for both Arsenal and Manchester United, though it was claimed last month that the former's interest had cooled.

Tielemans, who joined Leicester permanently from AS Monaco for £40m back in 2019, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium.

It is a frustrating development for Brendan Rodgers, with Tielemans being such a key player for the team. In total, he made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes last season, showing his value to his manager.

What has O'Rourke said about Tielemans and Newcastle?

Following their takeover last year, O'Rourke says Newcastle are in a position where they can afford to sign players like Tielemans and hand them big contracts.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "They've obviously got the financial backing to go out there and sign the best players, and I'm sure they could make a lucrative offer to Tielemans if they do pursue a move for the Belgium international.

"That will be the way that they will try and persuade him to make the move to St James Park ahead of other clubs."

How much of a coup would Tielemans be for Newcastle?

He would be a massive one. As already mentioned, the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are looking at Tielemans, while he is, of course, also a very good player.

Discussing the 52-cap Belgium international last year, Rodgers said (via Daily Mirror): "I think he’s progressing well, he’s doing very well. He came in January 2019 and he has progressed into one of Europe’s top midfielders.

"He’s only going to get better. An incredible professional. His mindset is to work at the highest level. He’s progressing and that’s what you want to see in your players. It will come with even more experience, even more games. He’s one of the best professionals I’ve ever worked with."

It will be tough, but if Eddie Howe can lure Tielemans to St James' Park, then that would be some acquisition for Newcastle.
