West Ham could make late swoop for 'talented' £30m star at London Stadium

West Ham United manager David Moyes

West Ham may have to wait until the end of the transfer window to sign Chelsea youngster Armando Broja, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 20-year-old appears to be David Moyes’ first-choice striker target this summer, but getting him out of Stamford Bridge is proving difficult.

What is the latest news involving Broja?

As per the MailOnline, West Ham and Everton have both registered an interest in signing Broja.

Prior, The Telegraph also claimed that the Hammers were trying to sign the Albanian but have not been quoted a price yet.

However, according to the same outlet, sources have suggested that Chelsea could demand up to £30m for their academy product.

The lack of clarity over Broja’s availability will frustrate Moyes, who is desperate to add a new forward to his squad.

Currently, Michail Antonio is the only recognised striker at the London Stadium.

What has Brown said about Broja to West Ham?

Brown thinks West Ham will have to play the waiting game if they want to sign Broja this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Star journalist said: “The [Chelsea] owners might think, ‘Look, we’ve got a sellable asset here that can bring some money back in and help us to fund some of these transfers that we want.’ So I have a feeling Broja might go towards the end of the window, but that’ll mean West Ham waiting for him.”

Can West Ham afford to wait around for Broja?

It is not hard to see why Moyes has identified Broja as a target. The Albania international had a bright campaign last term, making 38 Premier League appearances and scoring six goals along the way. And at 20, he is only going to get better.

Over the last year, Broja has also ranked in the 86th percentile for aerial duels won among forwards (via FBref), so he looks ideal for the English top flight.

Do you know this obscure player West Ham signed in the January transfer window?

As former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard put it, Broja is a “very talented” player. With all of that being said, is waiting around for him the smart move here? For West Ham, probably not.

As already mentioned, they need a new striker due to Moyes not having any real alternatives to Antonio. If they put all of their eggs in one basket with Broja and end up missing out on him and signing a forward altogether, it could set them up for an underwhelming season.

Ultimately, Broja is a good target for West Ham to have, but they should not stay in a frozen state in this transfer window for him.
