Tottenham need to give Middlesbrough a "take it or leave it" offer for Djed Spence or hope the Championship club lower their valuation, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 21-year-old has been identified as Antonio Conte's top right wing-back target this summer, although an agreement is yet to be reached.

What's the latest news involving Spence?

Tottenham have been chasing Spence's signature since Fabio Paratici and co. were impressed by his exploits while playing for Nottingham Forest against Arsenal in the FA Cup back in January.

Talks have been ongoing since, but the two clubs remain apart in their valuation of the youngster, with Middlesbrough asking for upwards of £15m, while Tottenham don't feel he's worth more than £10m.

Sky Sports reported last week that Spence was in 'advanced talks' over a move to north London after a £15m fee had finally been reached.

The Telegraph backed up those claims by stating that Spurs were 'close to finally completing' a deal to sign Spence and were hoping to secure his services before the club jet off to South Korea for their pre-season tour.

However, the Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel, speaking on the Last Word on Spurs, reckons nothing is imminent, which suggests Spence won't be on the plane to the Far East with the rest of Conte's squad.

What did Jones say about Spence?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Something needs to happen very soon. Either Boro need to budge on their valuation or Spurs need to give them a take it or leave it offer.

"Tottenham will say we can't drag this on all summer, we know he wants to come to us, let's get it done."

Why do Tottenham want Spence?

There are many reasons why Spence, described as 'incredible' back in March, is such an attractive proposition to Tottenham.

Not only does he have age on his side and therefore potentially a huge career ahead of him, but the fact he's English means he'll boost Spurs' homegrown numbers, especially in the Champions League.

Furthermore, Conte clearly sees Spence as a better option than at least one of Emerson Royal or Matt Doherty.

Royal spent the majority of last season as first choice on the right, although an impressive run in the side prior to his season-ending injury allowed the ex-Wolves ace to nail down the position, before the Brazilian took the reins once again for the final few games.
