Hollywood actor Chris Pratt has issued a public apology to Israel Adesanya after criticising his performance against Jared Cannonier at UFC 276 in Las Vegas.

Pratt, 43, appeared as a special guest on the ESPN post-fight show alongside MMA coach Din Thomas and current light-heavyweight contender Anthony Smith to promote his new Amazon series 'The Terminal List'.

During the televised appearance, he made a series of disparaging remarks about Adesanya, including claiming that he had no interest in watching 'a little bit of a pitter-patter'.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star also implied that Adesanya had talked a big game but failed to back it up when it mattered the most.

He was quoted as saying: “I’m gonna say this as humbly as I can, as a guy who never stepped in the Octagon. I don’t know this game, I’m just an actor. But I’m not a fan, man.

“I’m not a fan of coming out, like, all that talk and then just kind of putting on a little bit of a pitter-patter. I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Cash on that.’ You’ve got to cash on that promise of being so bada**.”

Those words prompted an angry reaction from The Last Stylebender, who responded by posting a clip of Pratt being hit in the face by James McAvoy in the movie 'Wanted', accompanied by the following caption: “Good morning. I’m the man. You’re just some fan.”

To which Pratt replied: “You’re right. I’m sorry brutha [sic].

"It bugs me when people criticize my work - having never themselves risked anything.

"It makes me a hypocrite to do exactly that to you. My bad. Keep on keeping champ.”

Pratt can be seen starring in the new Marvel movie 'Thor: Love and Thunder', which is currently in cinemas right now.

As for Adesanya, there has been no word on who his next opponent will be.

However, it's likely he will face Alex Pereira in his next fight, after the latter produced a knockout of the ages against Sean Strickland.

The pair have history, with Pereira beating Adesanya twice before on both occasions in the world of kickboxing.

But Adesanya's coach Bareman believes it will be a different result the next time they fight.

In fact, he feels the UFC are trying to stop Pereira from getting 'exposed'.
