Manchester United will not sign Napoli and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen in this transfer window according to Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old has been linked to Bayern Munich and United in Italy over the last few days, but Jones has revealed the transfer won’t happen.

What’s the latest on Osimhen?

Osimhen, who has been dubbed as “extraordinary” by Salernitana manager Stefano Colantuono, had been linked with a move to Old Trafford alongside the German giants, coinciding with reports that Cristiano Ronaldo has told United that he wants to leave the club this summer, as he wants to see the Manchester club show more ambition.

It is likely then Erik ten Hag will now need to invest in a striker this summer if the Portugal legend is allowed to leave Old Trafford during the transfer window.

Ten Hag will be preparing himself for a summer rebuild this season, after the Red Devils finished in a disappointing sixth-place in last season’s Premier League, with the club finishing the campaign trophyless.

And Jones believes that Osimhen, who has scored 66 senior club goals so far in his career, will not be part of this rebuild, with Napoli having full intentions of keeping him on board for their upcoming Serie A campaign.

What has Jones said about Osimhen?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “United will not get Osimhen in this window, I’m told the situation has been gently looked into but that he is simply not available.

“Napoli intend to resist any offers for him in this window so it’s probably one we can draw a line through.”

What next for Manchester United?

Ten Hag’s side have already secured the signing of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord for a reported fee of £14.7m, with the club intending to conduct more business ahead of a summer rebuild project.

United are expected to announce the arrival of Denmark international Christian Eriksen imminently, with the deal as good as completed according to Fabrizio Romano.

Meanwhile, the club are battling it out with fellow Premier League and UEFA Europa League side Arsenal for the signature of ten Hag’s former Ajax centre-back Lisandro Martínez this summer, with the seven-time Argentina international due to make a decision on where his future lies in the coming days.

Another striker who could potentially replace Ronaldo, could be RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey, with the Mirror reporting that ten Hag has held conversations with the 22-year-old about potentially joining the Old Trafford side this summer, with the Bundesliga club prepared to let him go for as little as £12.8m.

Although the transfer of Osimhen is seemingly not going to happen for United this summer, there are plenty of options for the club and ten Hag to explore ahead of August’s Premier League kick-off.
