In a truly fascinating feature with YouTube channel 'The Coaches Voice', Benitez has guided fans through the tactical set ups he adopted to achieve so much success in the game.

The 18 minute long interview considers Benitez's time with Valencia between 2001-2004, as well as his time at Liverpool between 2004-2010, even discussing the 2005 Champions League final.

The Spaniard goes through everything from the formation he used (4-2-3-1), to what was required of each player in order for the team to operate effectively, and most significantly, why he set up that way with those players.

We'll take you through a breakdown of some of the best bits from the feature, focussing predominantly on his analysis of Liverpool.

Benitez on his time at the Reds

Now, obviously, we all know the highlight of Benitez's Liverpool career was that miraculous night in Istanbul and everything that led up to it.

But that was his first year in charge of the club. And whilst he'd quickly carved the Reds into a rigid defensive unit, he'd actually had little time to leave his imprint on the team.

That 'imprint' so to say, was finally completed when Liverpool signed Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano in the summer of 2007.

"One of the key decisions, when we signed Torres, we moved Gerrard behind Torres because we could sign Mascherano," Benitez told The Coaches Voice.

"And then we could go Mascherano - Lucas Leiva (in the defensive midfield roles), or Alonso - Mascherano, or Alonso - Lucas Leiva.

"So we had the balance here, freedom for Gerrard to attack and get into the box and obviously the threat of Torres running behind defenders.

"We had Kuyt (on the right) who was always working hard and then changing (left) wingers depending on the year.

"But the main thing was freedom for Gerrard behind the striker, Torres upfront where he was a threat, and two midfielders that could pass the ball like Alonso or regain the ball like Mascherano.

Anyone remember that deadly spell Gerrard spent playing the number 10 role behind Torres? That's a silly question, of course you do.

The pair scored 81 goals whilst they were on the pitch together (Torres 52, Gerrard 29), which worked out an average rate of 1.13 goals per 90 minutes - and absolutely none of that would have been possible without Benitez's ingenious tactics.
