Sheffield has been turned into a sea of orange as Dutch fans congregate in the city for the Netherlands’ Euro 2022 match against Sweden. In arguably the most anticipated match of the group stage, the defending champions will take on the Swedes at Bramall Lane this evening. The encounter will feature stars such as Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema and Chelsea captain Magdalena Eriksson. With anticipation for the match building, boisterous Dutch fans have been ramping up the party atmosphere in Sheffield. After assembling in the designated Euro 2022 fan park, thousands of orange-clad match-goers embarked on a parade to the stadium, singing and chanting as they went. The march to the stadium before kick-off is a tradition for Dutch football fans, and social media users were impressed by the turnout for Euro 2022.

One Twitter user posted: “The Netherlands fans are special. Sheffield truly on a stand still for these lot!”

Another wrote: “The Dutch fans are so special 🇳🇱 Incredible atmosphere in the fan walk to the stadium 🤩”.

Someone else asked for the Dutch players to be shown the clips of the travelling support, writing: “Goosebumps, looks like at home. Make sure our girls have seen this, it's great strength to go into the match.”

The Swedish fans could not compete with the sheer number of Dutch fans, but they gave it their best shot, taking over Division Street.

The Netherlands and Sweden are contesting Group C alongside Switzerland and Portugal, who played out a 2-2 draw this afternoon.

Despite the Netherlands’ status as defending champions, Sweden will be considered favourites going into this evening’s encounter.

Ranked second in the world behind the US, they finished with a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, the Dutch side struggled to impress in their warm-up matches for Euro 2022, suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to tournament hosts England.Â
