Sebastian Vettel has called on the FIA to review the design of the front brakes on this year's Formula 1 cars after getting covered in brake dust at the Austrian Grand Prix.

The German cut a rather old-school looking figure at the end of the race in Spielberg on Sunday evening with him covered in a fine black dust, resembling some of the drivers from the 50's who obviously had their faces far more exposed to the elements and environment than these days.

Indeed, we don't often see a driver covered in brake dust nowadays but that was the case on Sunday with Seb having some on his face and down his fire-proof clothing, which he said was due to the way the brakes on the new cars are designed.

Speaking after the Grand Prix, he called on the FIA to take a look at it, too, as it's obviously something you don't want to be inhaling:

"To be honest that's something [the FIA] needs to work on because the way the brake ducts are designed this year on the front axel is blowing the brake dust into our faces and it's not good. Obviously, carbon dust is something not healthy to breathe in so I hope the FIA looks into this very soon because it's pointless and easy to change."

Vettel will surely raise the issue when he can and if it is a safety hazard then it will be looked at and considered, that is for sure.

The weekend in general was one to forget for Seb, meanwhile, with him sanctioned for walking out of the drivers' meeting at the start of the weekend, before retiring from the Sprint yesterday and having to start at the wrong end of the grid for the Grand Prix.

He finished 17th on Sunday, meanwhile, after receiving a late penalty and so he'll be glad to move on from Spielberg and forget it ever happened this year.
