New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag seems to have a peculiar soft spot when it comes to signing players from the Eredivisie.

It's not something that's entirely unusual with managers. They like to work with who and what they know best, after all.

In Ten Hag's case, given he is a Dutch international and coming fresh from the position of Ajax's head coach, he knows the Eredivisie like the back of his hand - and consequently, he's been recruiting like it.

Ten Hag's eye for the Eredivisie

Let's take a look through the players United have signed or are linked to this window.

Tyrell Malacia, 22, recently became the Dutchman's first signing as United boss. The young left-back came directly from Feyenoord for a reported £14.7 million fee.

Ten Hag has also been heavily linked with moves for three Ajax stars in Lisandro Martinez, Jurrien Timber and Antony.

Whilst the signing of Christian Eriksen seems just over the horizon, who, despite turning out most recently for Brentford, has plied his trade at Ajax previously, too.

Even Frenkie de Jong, the club's apparent 'top target' this summer, has played under Ten Hag in Amsterdam - it really is quite crazy how narrowly focussed they've been in their recruitment strategy.

So with that in mind, we thought we could consider how successful United have been in recruiting players from the Netherlands over the years.

Should United fans be worried about the potential influx of Dutch footballing talent? Or quietly confident that they might just be on to a winner?

The 11 signings Man Utd have made from the Eredivisie and how they got on

Raimond van der Gouw

Van der Gouw only made 60 appearances for United across six year spell with the club, but he proved a reliable understudy for club legend Peter Schmeichel across that time.

He's certainly nothing to write home about, however, overall, he was an okay signing.

Jaap Stam

Stam was a dominant force throughout his three year spell at Old Trafford, even winning the treble in his first year with the club.

He's fondly remembered as one of the Red Devils' finest central defenders despite Sir Alex Ferguson selling the imposing Dutchman to Lazio in 2001 - something which he later admitted was one of the biggest mistakes of his career.

Jaap Stam United

Ruud van Nistelrooy

A goalscorer of the highest order, Van Nistelrooy bagged 149 times for United in just 217 games and unsurprisingly claimed the Premier League Golden Boot in 2002/2003.

Setting aside his individual accolades, the striker spearheaded United to exceptional success and by the time he moved to Real Madrid in 2007, he'd won everything there was to win domestically.

Park Ji-Sung

Park is something of a cult hero at Old Trafford and a hideously underappreciated player by many.

The South Korean joined the club in 2005 from PSV and would spend seven trophy-laden years in red.

By the time he left for Queens Park Rangers in 2012, he'd earnt himself four Premier League winners medals and a Champions League title to boot.

Andreas Pereira

After moving to United as a 16-year-old sensation from PSV Eindhoven, it's fair to say Pereira's career hasn't lived up to expectations just yet.

Now 26, and several loan spells later, he looks set to leave the club this summer.

Alexander Buttner

Signed with a view to become the next Patrice Evra, Buttner flattered to deceive after scoring on his debut against Wigan.

A mere 13 league appearances was all he could manage for the club before moving on.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Fosu-Mensah shares a similar story to Pereira. After joining United as a 16-year-old he showed plenty of promise and enjoyed a useful loan spell at Crystal Palace.

However, on returning to United, he struggled to establish himself amongst the first team squad and now plays for Bayer Leverkusen.

Daley Blind

Blind joined United in 2014 and proved a bright spark throughout a difficult time at the club.

His game intelligence, versatility and passing were especially useful throughout his spell and he became popular amongst supporters.

Memphis Depay

Depay proved yet another casualty of United's cursed number seven shirt and stands amongst Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and Michael Owen who all failed to impress whilst brandishing the famous tag.

A clear flop.

Tahith Chong

Another youngster that just hasn't quite been able to make that step up into first team football, it seems the 22-year-old could be moving on this summer.

It's a shame for Chong because he showed so much ability in the youth leagues and many believed he had a big future at Old Trafford, who knows, maybe Ten Hag's influence could change things...

Donny van de Beek

Another one that will be praying the arrival of Ten Hag coincides with a change of personal fortune is Van de Beek.

His time at United really couldn't have gone much worse if he'd tried. However, given Van de Beek's successful history with Ten Hag at Ajax, one has to feel optimistic about his chances moving forward.

The conclusion

It's a tough one...

United have certainly enjoyed their fair share of success shopping in the Netherlands.

The key point of concern, though, is that their real success stories all came around two decades ago in the form of Stam, Van Nistelrooy and Park.

Blind is probably the most recent high point having signed in 2014.

At the end of the day, only time will tell how successful Ten Hag's Dutch revolution turns out to be, but after the tough years United fans have been forced to endure recently, there'll be hoping he's got the magic touch.
