The 2021/22 season really was one to forget for Manchester United Football Club.Despite adding Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho to the squad, the Red Devils were woeful for pretty much the entirety of the campaign.United ended up finishing sixth in the Premier League table, meaning they will be playing Europa League football in 2022/23.But there's cautious optimism among supporters going into the new season and much of that is down to the arrival of manager Erik ten Hag.The Dutchman enjoyed a lot of success at Ajax, although he has his work cut out at Old Trafford after Ralf Rangnick's disastrous reign as interim boss. One thing Ten Hag will be desperate to do is to get the team's young guns firing again, namely Marcus Rashford and Sancho. Both forwards flattered to deceive for much of last season, Rashford in particular.Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho in action for Man UtdMANCHESTER, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 12: Jadon Sancho celebrates with Marcus Rashford of Manchester United after scoring their team's first goal during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Southampton at Old Trafford on February 12, 2022 in Manchester, England. Okay, the goal itself is nothing special, but for United fans it's very promising to see the two Englishmen combining to good effect - which they rarely did last season.

One thing that will surely act as a driving force for both Rashford and Sancho next season is the World Cup later on in the year.

The United duo were not part of Gareth Southgate's latest England squad and are in danger of missing out on a place at the tournament.

However, if they rediscover their mojo in the first half of 2022/23, a spot in the squad may very well be reclaimed.

United begin their Premier League campaign on August 7th with an away match against Brighton & Hove Albion, the team that thrashed them 4-0 at the start of May.

A trip to Brentford awaits Ten Hag's side after that fixture, before they host bitter rivals Liverpool on August 22nd - which is going to be an unmissable instalment of Monday Night Football.
