Former UFC champion Cris Cyborg has explained why she believes she lost to Amanda Nunes back at UFC 232.

There are a handful of female fighters who can claim to be in the GOAT conversation within mixed martial arts - and there are even fewer who have competed in the modern era.

More often than not we hear Cris Cyborg, Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko being the three names mentioned above all others, with Nunes being the only one who holds a victory over the other two.

She’s 2-0 against Valentina but most notably, she holds a knockout win over Cris Cyborg.

The event was UFC 232 back in late 2018 with many believing the winner of the bout would be able to hold the ‘GOAT’ title.

In the end, the contest lasted just 51 seconds after a crazy exchange that ended in Nunes knocking Cyborg out.

She won the UFC women’s featherweight championship and in the process, sent the MMA world into a stunned silence.

In the present day, Cyborg isn’t afraid to give her thoughts on what went down in the form of a pretty intriguing tweet.

“I think all the emotions of being sidelined by the ufc for 9 months, changing managers, even discover the venue had been moved from Vegas to LA made me fight too aggressive and abandon the game plan. The fight made me a better fighter and woman today though.”

The pair never got the chance to run it back with Cyborg leaving the UFC less than a year later.

Where are they now?

Amanda Nunes is still the featherweight queen but she no longer holds the bantamweight belt after losing it to Julianna Pena in a remarkable upset.

Cyborg, on the other hand, is the reigning 145-pound champion in Bellator and has defended it successfully on four occasions.

It’s important to remember the ‘never say never’ element of combat sports because you really do never know what’s coming around the next corner, but we’d be surprised if these two legends ever tussled again.

Either way, you need to go back and watch that scrap in Inglewood.
