Arsenal target Youri Tielemans is "keen" on making the switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

With less than 12 months remaining on the midfielder's contract, competition is fierce for his signature, although Jones reckons his preferred option would be the red half of north London.

What's the latest news involving Tielemans?

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the Belgium international throughout the summer and The Sun finally believe Mikel Arteta's side are ready to step up their pursuit of the 25-year-old star.

Back in May, the same outlet reported that the Gunners were 'confident' of landing the midfielder for £40m, although this report states that he would now cost just £30m, with Arsenal still convinced they'll eventually get their man.

Tielemans, once described as 'sensational' is on Manchester United's backup list of players should they fail to sign Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, but Jones reckons the ex-Monaco ace only wants to join Arteta's team.

What did Jones say about Tielemans?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Tielemans would make sense for Arsenal. I think the level of experience he has in the Premier League would count for a lot right now.

"I think he is keen on joining Arsenal, although I think Spurs are a better fit because he wants to prove he's a Champions League player and obviously Arsenal aren't in the Champions League right now."

Why do Arsenal want Tielemans?

Arsenal have lacked genuine quality in the middle of the park for several years and even though Thomas Partey has nailed down one of the two positions, he needs a reliable partner.

Granit Xhaka, who was the club's second best midfielder last season, according to WhoScored, spent much of 2021-2022 next to him, and while his level improved quite considerably from previous years, the Gunners need to upgrade on him if they're serious about top four.

And signing Tielemans would represent exactly that. The classy operator has already racked up 113 goal contributions in his club career, with 24 goals and 24 assists coming since he arrived at Leicester.

Arsenal have lacked end product from midfield for a while, highlighted by Tielemans' 10 goal contributions in the Premier League last season being more than their entire central department combined, with Xhaka, Partey, Sami Lokonga and Mohamed Elneny managing just eight.
