It's no secret that the money in football is crazy.

The world's biggest football club are extremely wealthy. They throw massive sums of money at players to convince them to join.

Even some teenagers with little experience in the world of professional football are given huge contracts with the hope they will become world stars.

With that in mind, HITC Sevens have named the eight highest-paid teenagers in world football in 2017 and looked at how their careers are going.

=7. Kai Havertz

How much was he earning in 2017? £26,000-per-week at Bayern Leverkusen
Where is he now? Chelsea

Havertz was earning a cool £26,000-per-week at the age of just 18 at Leverkusen. After excelling in the Bundesliga, he made the £71 million move to Chelsea in 2020. He hasn't always shone in west London but did manage to score the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final.

=7. Christian Pulisic

How much was he earning in 2017? £26,000-per-week at Borussia Dortmund
Where is he now? Chelsea

Pulisic was just 17 when he made his debut for Dortmund. He signed for Chelsea in a £58 million deal in 2019. He has played 115 times for The Blues, scoring 25 times.

6. Yann Karamoh

How much was he earning in 2017? £32,000-per-week at Inter Milan
Where is he now? Parma

After shining in the 2015/16 for Caen, Inter snapped a teenage Karamoh up and gave him a salary that the vast majority of teenagers can only dream of. He hasn't lived up to his potential, though .He joined Parma in 2020 after failing to break through at Inter. The Ivorian striker spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Fatih Karagümrük, where he scored four times in 35 games.

5. Panagiotis Retsos

How much was he earning in 2017? £34,000-per-week at Bayer Leverkusen
Where is he now? Hellas Verona

Leverkusen signed Retsos for £15.75 million in 2017 and gave the 19-year-old a £34,000-per-week contract. He never established himself as a first-team regular, though. After unsuccessful stints on loan at Sheffield United and Saint-Etienne, he joined Hellas Verona on a free transfer in 2021. He played just five times for the Italian club last season.

4. Douglas Luiz

How much was he earning in 2017? £40,000-per-week at Manchester City
Where is he now? Aston Villa

Luiz never made a single appearance for City as he left to join Aston Villa in 2019. He has played 111 times and scored five times for the club.

3. Dayot Upamecano

How much was he earning in 2017? £41,000-per-week at Red Bull Leipzig
Where is he now? Bayern Munich

Upamecano established himself as one of the Bundesliga's top defenders at RB Leipzig. Bayern Munich met his release clause in 2021, signing him in a €42.5 million deal. He played 38 times and scored once for the Bavarian giants in the 2021/22 season.

2. Martin Odegaard

How much was he earning in 2017? £84,000-per-week at Real Madrid
Where is he now? Arsenal

Real Madrid signed the teenage sensation in 2015, when he was just 16. Heavily sought after by pretty much every top club in the world, the Spanish giants ensured they snapped Odegaard up by giving him a quite incredible £81,000-per-week deal. He never made the grade at Los Blancos but he has developed into a wonderful footballer. He is captain of Norway and is one of the Premier League's best attacking midfielders at Arsenal.

1. Gianluigi Donnarumma

How much was he earning in 2017? £180,000-per-week at AC Milan
Where is he now? Paris Saint-Germain

AC Milan were paying Donnarumma mind-boggling £180,000-per-week when he was just a teenager. Having established himself as a first-team regular at 16 years old, Donnarumma made 251 appearances for the club before joining PSG in 2021. He has made 47 appearances for Italy and was the hero as they beat England to win Euro 2020.
