Southampton winger Theo Walcott could leave the Premier League for Major League Soccer this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The £75,000 per-week star has just 12 months left on his Saints contract and has been linked with a move Stateside.

What's the latest news involving Walcott?

According to The Sun, the 33-year-old is attracting attention from the American top-flight and is 'eyeing' a switch to the MLS having fallen down the pecking order under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Walcott started just five Premier League games last season and was on the pitch for less than 500 minutes in all competitions, with his only league appearance in 2022 coming as a late substitute against Tottenham.

As a result, the ex-Arsenal and Everton attacker could see a move away from his boyhood club, with possible destinations across the pond being LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC, New York Red Bulls and New York City FC.

A switch to LAFC would see him link up with former Southampton teammate Gareth Bale and while Crook didn't reveal a specific club, he stated that a transfer to the MLS is a "possibility".

What did Crook say about Walcott?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Redmond, Djenepo and Theo are only going to be fringe players, so if they want to go and play regular football, I don't think Southampton will stand in their way.

"I know there's interest in Walcott from America, and that is a possibility from what I'm told."

Should Walcott leave Southampton?

When the England international made the move back to the South Coast last summer, it looked the perfect destination for the veteran, who had just enjoyed a productive loan spell back at Saints.

But since signing permanently, Walcott's game-time has diminished almost entirely, with his only start in the final five months of the season coming against Coventry in the FA Cup.

His lack of opportunities in the final months of the campaign would suggest that he's likely to be nothing more than a squad player next season, highlighting why he would be keen on America.

Therefore, whether it ends up being the MLS or another challenge, leaving his boyhood club for the second time in his career would probably be a wise decision for both parties.
