Antonio Conte has already added Clément Lenglet to his defensive ranks this summer, but is likely to want to add one more in order to play in a back three system.
What’s the latest on Tottenham?
It has been an exceptionally busy transfer market for Spurs so far this season, with there being no less than five senior arrivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
The highest profile of these transfers has been the signing of Brazil and Everton striker Richarlison, for a reported fee of £60m.
A deal worth £35m had also been struck for the purchase of Brighton and Mali midfielder Yves Bissouma, with the 25-year-old signing a four-year deal at the north London club.
And Crook believes that Spurs are likely to prioritise the signing of another centre-back this summer.
What has Crook said about Tottenham?
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’ve been told that a centre-back is more of a priority (than a number ten).
“Obviously, they’ve signed Lenglet but I think they will sign one more as well because they’re going to play a back three, ideally with Spence and Perišić as the wing-backs.”
What next for Tottenham?
In terms of centre-back options, Villarreal and Spain centre-back Pau Torres has been the most concrete link for Spurs, with the Mirror that the club are still interested in making a bid of around £30m for the 25-year-old, despite the acquisition of Lenglet.
Meanwhile, the Express have reported that the north London club are battling it out with Arsenal and Chelsea for the signing of Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, after the Serie A club have decided they will let their Brazilian defender leave after he expressed a desire for a new challenge.
Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni had been a target for both Spurs and Chelsea, but the Italian international has outlined his intentions of staying at the San Siro club this season.
It seems as though that the majority of Spurs’ potential transfer links are with centre-backs seemingly confirming Crook’s comments about the club’s desire for another addition in this area.
With the Premier League kick-off now less than a month away, Lilywhites fans will be hoping that they can get a new centre-back through the door as soon as possible, with Conte needing to find a way to balance both domestic and Champions League football next season.
