Israel Adesanya recently defended his UFC Middleweight Championship against Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC 276, but there have been some fans and critics who have been slating the performance from ‘The Last Stylebender.’

MMA legend and former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen recently commented on the fans who have been criticising Adesanya, and in true Chael style, he was quick to mock those who ragged on a professional athlete at the top of his game.

Whilst the UFC 276 main event wasn’t exactly a barnburner, it was another successful defence for the best 185-pound fighter in the company.

Here is what MMA legend Chael Sonnen had to say to fans who have been mocking Israel Adesanya for his performance at UFC 276.

Chael Sonnen on Israel Adesanya Haters

Israel Adesanya is regarded as one of the greatest fighters of his generation

Speaking on his popular YouTube channel, the ‘American Gangster’ would absolutely rip into people who have been slating Adesanya after his UFC 276 performance.

He said: "When people choose to go head-to-head with Adesanya about fighting, that's a hard one for me. This is a guy whose philosophy, training habits, performance, this is top-shelf stuff.

"This whole thing is overlapped by the fact that Adesanya vs. Pereira is the number one fight I want to see in the sport right now. If he's coasting, if he's so bad, if he's so awful, if we're all so upset, how does he then go into the biggest fight that the sport has to make?

“Those things, they don't add up... So what are we really doing here? We're seeing greatness and we're trying to beat him the only way we know how, verbally. We're trying to hurt his feelings because we can't beat him in a cage."

Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira

UFC 276: Strickland v Pereira

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 02: Alex Pereira of Brazil exits the octagon after knocking out Sean Strickland in the first round of their middleweight bout during UFC 276 at T-Mobile Arena on July 02, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Carmen Mandato/Getty Images)

Alex Pereira is of course the only man to knockout ‘The Last Stylebender’ in his combat sports career, whilst both men were competing in kickboxing.

It remains to be seen if the company will put Alex Pereira in the octagon with Adesanya, but it would be an intriguing bout with two of the best strikers on the planet going toe-to-toe once again in a sport other than kickboxing.

If and when the two men do collide, it should be a fight for the ages with a heavy emphasis on both their stand-up abilities.
