Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is "scouring the market" for a new striker, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Villa boss has enjoyed a productive transfer window by adding five new faces to his squad, although he's yet to bolster his forward ranks.

What business have Villa already completed?

Even before the market was officially open for business, Gerrard had got three signings over the line, with Philippe Coutinho the first man through the door when he signed permanently from Barcelona.

Diego Carlos was next to arrive, signing for £26m from Sevilla to add competition to Gerrard's defensive options, before Robin Olsen came in from Roma as the club's backup keeper.

Boubacar Kamara then joined following the expiration of this contract at Marseille, while Ludwig Augustinsson penned a loan deal from Sevilla, with the left-back Gerrard's fifth and latest addition.

But Crook reckons that while the Villa manager has improved almost every area of the pitch, he's still interested in bringing a striker to the East Midlands.

What did Crook say about Aston Villa?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "They got a lot of business done early and then it's gone a bit quiet. They were obviously linked with Luis Suarez. So, I think Gerrard is scouring the market and that would probably have a knock on effect with Danny Ings."

What are Villa's current striker options?

Despite Crook suggesting that Gerrard remains in the market for another frontman, he already has three at his disposal.

Ollie Watkins would appear his first choice striker heading into the new campaign, with the former Brentford star starting more than 85 per cent of Villa's Premier League games last season.

But while Watkins was one of the first names on the teamsheet, Danny Ings endured a mixed first year following his move from Southampton.

The England international scored just seven top-flight goals, his worst return for three years, which highlights why he was picked from the off just 22 times by Gerrard.

Beyond Ings and Watkins, Villa also have highly-rated 20-year-old Cameron Archer on their books.

The academy graduate has made just six appearances for the first-team, but enjoyed a productive loan spell at Preston North End last season, and also shone for England U21s by scoring three goals in his first three caps.

Therefore, if Gerrard isn't successful in bringing a new striker to the club, Archer might get a chance moving forward.
