West Ham United might not be out of the race for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana just yet, according to Dean Jones.

The Hammers have now had two confirmed bids rejected for the 20-year-old, but the move could still be alive.

What’s the latest on Onana?

The Irons first bid was rumoured to be in the region of £19.5m, according to The Athletic.

According to Sky Sports, David Moyes’ side have had a second bid for the youngster turned down, this time thought to be in the region of £25m.

A move for Onana still hasn’t been ruled out, but matters are now complicated with Arsenal also showing an interest in the one-time Belgium international, according to RMC Sport journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

West Ham have made three signings so far this summer, and have already signed one midfielder, following the arrival of Flynn Downes from Swansea City this month.

Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola have also both put pen to paper, signing from Rennes and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

And with Tomáš Souček potentially departing the club this year, with the club reaching an impasse in contract talks with the Czech Republic international, Moyes will want to bring more midfield reinforcements to the club.

And Jones believes that whilst two bids have been rejected, David Moyes’ side are still not out of the race as of yet for the 6 foot 5 midfielder.

What has Jones said about Onana?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I'll be honest, I wouldn't totally rule West Ham out of Onana just yet.

“I think that might still have a twist in it.

“They’ll want to see how that Souček situation develops too, as that could have big implications here.”

Would Onana be a good signing for West Ham?

At the age of just 20, Onana would seem to be a smart bit of business for the Hammers this summer, with the midfielder having experience of regular football already under his belt, as well as being at an age where he can still greatly improve from the player he is now.

The Belgian midfielder made 42 appearances for the Irons last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in that time according to Transfermarkt.

The £25m-rated man is an exceptional holding midfielder and won’t shirk a tackle, and this is shown by the fact that he ranked in the top 6% of midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues and European competition for tackles per 90 minutes last season (3.45) according to FBref.

With the potential departure of Souček, the Irons could really do with adding depth to their midfield with just Declan Rice and Downes being the only options at the London Stadium should the Czech Republic international depart east London this summer, and Onana looks to be a fantastic option for Moyes to add to his squad.
