Just over one year ago, one of MMA’s biggest names Conor McGregor fought Dustin Poirier for the second time in 2021.The first bout in January saw Poirier victorious in Abu Dhabi by TKO, just two and a half minutes into the second round.A rematch was arranged for July of that year in Las Vegas, and this was over even quicker as the Irishman suffered a broken tibia inside round one, with the ringside doctor deeming him unfit to continue.Following the second fight of the year, third in total, Floyd Mayweather tweeted a photo of a bet slip, showing he had placed $50,000 on The Notorious to lose to Poirier.Mayweather and McGregor had been going at each other for many years, and it started in 2015 when McGregor appeared on Conan O’Brien, revealing he would be interested in a potential fight.Mayweather then responded stating that the perceptions of the two fighters was “down to race” and that “racism still exists.”McGregor took this personally and took to Instagram to fire back, telling Mayweather about how the Irish have and still are prejudiced. The back and forth spat between the pair continued until May 2017, where the contracts were finally signed, with Mayweather announcing that he is ‘unretiring to beat Conor McGregor.’Mayweather retired from professional boxing in 2017, after successfully beating the UFC superstar, but their beef has continued ever since.None more so than when the American backed his countryman against McGregor and after the fight, took to Twitter to tweet the photo with the caption: “@dustinpoirier, thanks for getting me paid!”McGregor responded to this with amusement, simply saying “35k” followed by two laughing emojis.

Other fans weighed in, with the majority laughing at Mayweather as he won less than he had put on the bet.

@petejamesphotos said: “He bet more than he won. That’s an awful bet. It’s only because he bet 50k it looks good,” followed by a laughing emoji.

McGregor has been out of action since the last Poirier fight, as he continues to recover from the injury suffered.
