Fabrizio Romano recently announced that Barcelona have agreed terms with Leeds for the transfer of Brazilian star Raphinha.

The Catalan club will pay a €58 million fixed fee with future add-ons potentially taking the total value of the package to €67 million.

Despite heavy interest on the part of Chelsea, it's believed that Raphinha has had his heart set on a move to Spain since February and will sign a contract taking him through to the summer of 2027.

Raphinha a huge coup for Barcelona

Much has been made of the dominance of Premier League clubs in recent times. However with Raphinha, and also with Robert Lewandowski - who has reportedly told Bayern he won't sign a new deal in a bid to help his push for Barca - they're showing that the pull of the age old institutions still stands strong.

Of course, Barcelona do still have €1.3 billion worth of debt hanging over their head and that's a very real issue.

But with the squad looking stronger on the pitch and hopefully the premise of much success to come, the revenue generating machine that is Barcelona can begin to dig itself out of the very deep hole they find themselves in.

And besides, when you realise how genuinely stacked their squad is, you realise that they could almost certainly afford to let a few players go to raise some capital...

Barcelona's frightening squad depth for 22/23

I mean, seriously?! It's so easy to forget just how many ballers they have amongst their ranks.

Should they sign Lewandowski, the prospect of him teaming up with an in-form Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang must be a truly terrifying prospect for opposition defenders.

Throw the silky tricks of Raphinha, Ansu Fati, Memphis Depay and Ousmane Dembele into the mix - well, we might as well all pack up and go home.

The midfield looks slightly less dense, especially with the prospect of Frenkie De Jong leaving for either Man Utd or Chelsea this summer.

However, the arrival of Franck Kessie from AC Milan and return of Pedri from long-term injury ought to be enough to ensure that they're still better off in that department than in the last campaign.

The defence remains relatively unchanged besides the addition of Andreas Christensen. The Danish centre-back should prove a useful asset at the club with reports suggesting that Pique could potentially be on his way out.

The conclusion

Overall, presuming Barcelona can get the Lewandowski deal over the line, you'd have to say they look a seriously strong outfit - so much so, that the team really ought to be bringing the fight to Real Madrid for next season's title.

The crisis Barcelona is amidst right now, though, only time will tell if they can channel their talent effectively enough to achieve the results they so badly want.
