Erik ten Hag took charge of his first Manchester United game on Tuesday afternoon.

United met fierce rivals Liverpool at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Thailand for their pre-season clash.

Despite the huge gulf between the sides last season, it was United who emerged victorious in a shock 4-0 demolition of The Reds.

Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri were all on the scoresheet for The Red Devils in their convincing victory.

It was Martial who picked up the Man-of-the-Match award at the end of the match.

The Frenchman was deemed surplus to requirements by Ralf Rangnick and shipped out on loan to Sevilla at the second half of the season.

But, with United lacking options up front, partly down to Cristiano Ronaldo's ongoing absence, Martial was given the opportunity to start against Liverpool.

Martial could have a much bigger role this season should Ronaldo get his way and departs the club.

Early signs from pre-season show he's ready to thrive with Ten Hag at the helm.

Ten Hag was happy with his side's display but noted his side can still improve.

He told Manchester United's official website after the game: "We are satisfied today because I think there was a team with great spirit. We know we are just starting and when things begin to click like the press... we know we made some mistakes in pressing and conceded some chances but also we created a lot and I think our team played bravely, they were proactive and we had to work really hard to get out of some mistakes. Of course, we are happy with the first game.

"Of course it will take time, believe me I have seen a lot of mistakes but I will not say [what they were]. We saw some really good things. What you see is we have a lot of creativity and speed in the front and we have potential."
