Everton 'looking at' signing £25m Premier League star at Goodison Park

Everton boss Frank Lampard celebrating at Goodison Park

Everton are interested in signing Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis this summer, according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs when speaking to GiveMeSport earlier this week.

Frank Lampard has seen Richarlison, his top scorer from last season, leave for Tottenham and is therefore in the market for a replacement.

What’s the latest news involving Dennis?

According to The Athletic, Everton are interested in signing Dennis, with the report stating that the Nigerian striker and Armando Broja are two of the likeliest candidates to replace Richarlison.

Despite avoiding relegation, the Brazilian opted to take his career to the next level and join Spurs last month, with the move giving him the opportunity to play in the Champions League.

But Watford weren’t unable to beat the drop, meaning Dennis, along with Ismaila Sarr, want to leave Vicarage Road.

The club’s sporting director Cristiano Giaretta said: “They would like to leave and have been looking at potential moves, but they are not causing us any problems. They are not banging on our door to get away as soon as they can.”

And while Jacobs said the Toffees are yet to officially launch an offer for Dennis, the striker could be available for £25m.

What did Jacobs say about Dennis?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Everton are also looking at Dennis as well. Neither club has made a formal bid yet. Watford are hoping for £25m with Newcastle valuing Dennis a bit lower.”

Why do Everton want Dennis?

Prior to Dennis’ move to Watford, he had questionable spells in Ukraine and Belgium and was not the profile of player that would excite Everton fans.

His potential arrival still might not get the Goodison Park off their feet, but his exploits last season make the links slightly more understandable.

Despite Watford suffering relegation back to the Championship, the 24-year-old still scored 10 top-flight goals in 33 appearances, which was more than the like of Gabriel Jesus, Romelu Lukaku and Alexandre Lacazette, who were all unable to hit double figures.

But perhaps the teams he scored against make him even more attractive. Four of his goals came against sides that finished in the top-eight, including strikes against Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham across a six-game period where he scored five goals, proving that he can do it against the very best.

Dennis, who also scored against Everton by embarrassing former Toffee Lucas Digne for pace, might not be the glamorous name that some Evertonians might be hoping for, but he scored as many as Richarlison last season and could yet prove a shrewd piece of business.
