Carles Puyol is one of the greatest captains in football history. The legendary defender led Barcelona to some extraordinary success after being named club captain in 2004.Puyol was a fierce competitor who gave absolutely everything to ensure his side emerged victorious every time he stepped on the field. He was also a model professional. Puyol had respect for his opponents and displayed exemplary sportsmanship whenever on the pitch. While he always wanted to win, he never rubbed it in the faces of his opponents. So, when Thiago and Dani Alves did just that 10 years ago, Puyol just had to act.On 29 April, 2012, Barcelona travelled to Rayo for their La Liga clash. The match was of great importance to Rayo, who were lingering near the bottom of the table with just a few games to go.Carles Puyol in action for BarcelonaBARCELONA, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 17: Carles Puyol of FC Barcelona looks on during the warm up prior to the La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Real Zaragoza at Camp Nou on November 17, 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. Recognising that their dance may have come across as disrespectful, Puyol sprinted up from defence and quickly put an end to their celebration.Watch the moment below...

Thiago and Alves didn't dare argue with Puyol and both jogged back to the halfway line. Both apologised for their actions after the game.

“I want to apologise to the Rayo fans who felt offended by the dance. It was never my intention to offend anyone, I just wanted to have a good time,” Alves said after the game, per Tribuna.

“Because they told me once when I was a child that football was all about having a good time. Besides that, great job by the team.”

Pep Guardiola also didn't look impressed on the sideline and grilled his players after the game.

"We apologise for it, that’s not the attitude of Barça players. It won’t happen again," Guardiola said, per the Metro.
