Cristiano Ronaldo has reached a crossroads in his career.Just when it looked certain that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner would be seeing out his two-year contract at Manchester United, multiple high-level sources reported that he wanted to leave the club this summer. On the back of the Red Devils' worst ever Premier League season, it seems as though Ronaldo is desperate to keep competing in his beloved Champions League as he enters the final years of his career.

Ronaldo at a crossroads

Even an evergreen athlete of historic proportions like Ronaldo can't go on forever and even taking so much as one season away from Europe's premier competition would be a huge sacrifice at this stage in his life.

And while there is still quiet optimism amongst United fans that Ronaldo can be talked into guiding the club into the Erik ten Hag era, it's done little to stop the rumours surrounding where he might go next.

After all, it's one thing for Ronaldo to want to leave Old Trafford and another thing for a suitable club to step forward, willing to pay the gargantuan wages required to secure one of the greatest athletes in history.

Everyone from Chelsea to Bayern Munich and Sporting Lisbon to Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move, but the situation remains tense with Ronaldo absent from United's pre-season tour due to personal issues.

Crazy proposal from Saudi Arabia

However, as we all await clarity on what could turn out to be the biggest talking point of the summer, there was a remarkable revelation on Wednesday night concerning a potential suitor for Ronaldo.

That's because a stunning report from CNN Portugal and TVI in Ronaldo's home country claims that United have received a humongous bid from a Saudi Arabian club for the star's services, according to the Express' translation.

It's explained that an unnamed Saudi club "have since emerged as the surprise first bidders," with their mind-boggling offer reported to give Ronaldo a total salary of £211 million over the course of two seasons.

That would work out as approximately £105 million every year, £2 million every week, £280,000 every day, £12,000 every hour, £200 every minute and £3 every second. Mind-blowing.

According to the Metro, this would make him the highest-paid player in history and would see him pocketing over five times what he currently earns at the 'Theatre of Dreams'.

The purported deal is also said to include a transfer fee for United in the region of £25 million and another £17 million in agents fees, bringing the entire package up to a staggering £253 million.

Now, it remains to be seen whether or not the proposal would ever get off the ground because as head-spinning as the figures certainly are, it seems doubtful that Ronaldo would want to turn his back on European football.

Either way, though, there's no denying that United need to ensure that the future of one of their greatest ever players is resolved as soon as possible.
