Tottenham winger Bryan Gil has a "great opportunity" to impress Antonio Conte in pre-season, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 21-year-old signed from Sevilla for £21.6m last summer, but he returned to Spain with Valencia in January following a lack of opportunities in north London.

What's the latest news involving Gil?

After hardly getting a look in during the three months he spent playing under Conte, many could be forgiven for thinking Gil would be loaned back in the current window.

But while Sergio Reguilon, Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso were left out of the squad to South Korea, the Spain Under-21 international was selected by the Italian.

And Gil, who's never started a Premier League game, looks like he's making the most of his chance after enjoying a sharp start to pre-season.

According to Alasdair Gold, the attacker was amongst the fittest players in the Spurs squad during Conte's brutal first training session in the Far East.

Gil was rewarded by starting the 6-3 victory over the K-League Stars 48 hours later, although he was taken off at half-time.

Regardless, with Tottenham still in the market for an attacking player, having shown interest in the Jesse Lingard and Anthony Gordon, O'Rourke reckons that Gil stepping up to the plate could save Tottenham millions.

What did O'Rourke say about Gil?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It could be a great opportunity for Gil. He's obviously hit the ground running in pre-season.

"If he catches the eye of Antonio Conte over the next few weeks, he could play his way into his plans going forward and he could save Spurs a bit of money in the transfer market if Gil does show what he has previously shown in Spain."

Could Gil get a chance next season?

Despite standing out with his fitness and work-rate, it's unlikely that Gil will be part of Conte's squad for next season.

Not only did he struggle to adapt to English football last term, which saw him make just one assist and fail to score in 756 minutes in a Tottenham shirt, but he's already been linked with another loan move.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Gil is on the list of Marseille, who are considering a move for the Spurs star, although the deal could prove difficult.

With that in mind, unless Gil performs incredibly well in Spurs' remaining pre-season fixtures, another loan would appear the likeliest outcome for the youngster.
