Man Utd: Ten Hag could reunite with 110-goal Premier League star

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could make a shock move to sign Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Morocco international spent two-and-a-half years together with the Dutchman at Ajax, and Jones reckons the duo could potentially reunite at Old Trafford.

What’s the latest news involving Ziyech?

When Ziyech left Amsterdam ahead of the 2020-2021 season, he was playing right at the top of his game and looked a real snip when Chelsea paid just £33.3m for his services.

But the winger has struggled to nail down a regular starting place at Stamford Bridge, making just 29 starts across his two years in English football.

As a result, Fabrizio Romano (via Caught Offside) believes that Ziyech, who’s been strongly linked with AC Milan, is a player who could move on to pastures new this summer.

But Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News), reckon Chelsea and Milan are struggling to agree on the terms of his proposed loan, and Jones thinks that could open the door for Ten Hag to make his move.

What did Jones say about Ziyech?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “The Ziyech move to AC Milan has stuttered a little and if that situation drags on let’s not rule out the idea that Ten Hag looks to take him to United instead.”

How did Ziyech perform last season?

Ziyech is clearly a top quality talent, highlighted by the fact he’s racked up 110 club goals across his career in Holland and England.

But since leaving Ajax, despite the occasional moment of brilliance, the attacker hasn’t been able to produce the sort of level that convinced Chelsea to sign him.

And his form last season was more evidence of that. His lack of consistencies, along with many other of Thomas Tuchel’s forward players, led to him starting just 14 Premier League games, with his final third output an underwhelming four goals and three assists.

Three of his four top-flight goals came in succession, too, which emphasises even further how disappointingly Ziyech performed for much of the campaign.

His fine goal against Tottenham was a reminder of what he’s capable of, but his two years in the Premier League has largely been forgetful, although given the best season of his career, when he scored 21 goals and laid on 24 assists for Ajax in 2018-2019, came playing under Ten Hag, the United boss would back himself to be the man to rediscover his form.
